New 'Sand Castle' Set Pic: Captain Syverson Coming To Life

Henry and Nicholas Hoult on the set of 'Sand Castle.'

The Netflix promotion for Sand Castle has begun in the UK, and Flavour magazine has a fab new pic from the Jordan set of the film on their post. You can tell Henry is really owning his U.S. special forces role as Captain Syverson!

Last week Netflix began rolling out the photos and synopsis, as it prepares for the worldwide release of Sand Castle this spring. While promoting Batman v Superman Henry talked to Peter Travers about his character, and how it compares to Supes:

"He's a good ol' boy from the south, big beard, you know.. makes fun of people most of the time. So he's pretty different from Supes, but there's still that hero quality to the guy."

What do you guys think?

Someone is ready to smash it!

Happy Anniversary Superman: 6 Years And Counting!

Henry's Superman is officially six years old today!

On January 30, 2011 Warner Brothers announced he had been cast as Supes.

Back then, director Zack Snyder called Henry “the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

He's more than proven that in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman.

The world now awaits his return in Justice League, and Superman is also getting a second standalone film.

Congratulations Henry, you've made this role your own.

The Durrell Challenge: No Knee Injury Is Stopping Superman

After Henry announced he had hurt himself and we saw that knee brace on him in Kansas City, we were beginning to wonder if he'd be ready to run The Durrell Challenge.

Now we have the answer! -- Today Henry confirmed with this funny clip, that he's begun training for the 13K race as he recovers from his injury.

You can join him, and even get a discount if you register by the end of this month... which should give you just enough time to prepare for the May 14th race.

Henry's resilience, just the push we needed to commit to the run. And of course we'll also be there to cover it.

See you all there!

UPDATE 1/29:  In case you're wondering what song is playing in the background..

Henry does like his country music!

Zack Snyder Shares 'Justice League' Post Production Update

Justice League is currently in post-production, and today director Zack Snyder gave us a look behind the curtain. He posted a photo of  Gal Gadot, who appears to be doing some ADR work on a sound stage.

Last week Zack gave Batman fans this pic below, reportedly also from the film.

While we're very excited when anything Justice League is released, this meme definitely captures our mood until Superman returns.. NOVEMBER 17TH.

"He Took His Time Signing Down The Carpet, Really Chatty"

It remains to be seen whether Henry will walk the red carpet during awards season this year.

In the meantime here's a flashback pic from the 2013 BAFTA Awards, shared by Amanda on her blog today.

It came with a brief commentary on her experience, after meeting him that night:

"I had so many good photos of Henry Cavill it was hard to choose, he took his time signing down the carpet and was really chatty. I promise, even if he does look moody in this one."

Read the rest of Amanda's fun write-up, that includes a look at Ben Affleck and Amy Adams on the red carpet.

Hopefully we don't have to wait too long, before we see Henry looking dapper in his suit or tux as he wows the crowd.

Catch everything else from the 2013 BAFTAs in our gallery.

Thanks Amanda!

'Sand Castle' Title Art, Running Time, Rating & Full Synopsis

A day after Netflix released new 'Sand Castle' photos, the film is now listed on its site. The upcoming release post, gives us a first look at the title art and comes with a brief synopsis:

After the invasion of Iraq in 2003, a reluctant soldier's platoon is dispatched on a dangerous mission to repair a hostile village's water system.

The listing also reveals Sand Castle's running time as 1 hour and 52 minutes and its rating as TV-MA.

Here's the full official synopsis:

Set in Iraq in 2003, Sand Castle follows a group of American soldiers in the early days of the second Gulf War. Bearing witness to the heat and the horror is the inexperienced Private Matt Ocre (Nicholas Hoult), who together with several fellow soldiers is ordered to the outskirts of Baqubah to repair a water pumping station damaged by U.S. bombs. But as Ocre discovers, in an atmosphere where resentment and anger fester, trying to win the hearts and minds of the locals is a task fraught with danger. It’s here, in the streets, squares and schools that he discovers the true cost of war.

New 'Sand Castle' Pics & Director Interview Ahead Of Release

Netflix has begun its promotion for Sand Castle, that is now reportedly set to be released in the spring. Under The Radar shared these new official photos of Henry as Captain Syverson on the set in Jordan, where Sand Castle was filmed at the end of 2015. See more photos with the rest of the cast and read what screenwriter Chris Roessner had to say. Henry had given fans a preview on social media as he worked on the film, and we're excited to bring you the very latest!

Director Fernando Coimbra also talked to Brazilian media recently about making the film -- You can read his new interview on the site. UPDATE: Our friend and contributor Rebecca, has translated the article/interview (below).

Coimbra mentioned in an earlier interview Henry was "almost unrecognizable."

Brazilian man directs original Netflix movie about War in Iraq

"Sand Castle" is a war film set during the controversial second US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

A full plate for an American filmmaker. But who is at the head of the project, it’s the SΓ£o Paulo director Fernando Coimbra ("The Wolf Behind the Door"), who thus becomes the first Brazilian filmmaker to command an original global release feature on Netflix.

"I was on my own editing when Netflix came to the project, so it was two feelings because I filmed thinking of the cinema screen. At the same time, the world projection of 85 million subscribers that this vehicle provides is incomparable," says Coimbra, the only Brazilian vehicle with prior access to shoot a feature film in Jordan in 2015.

"Although it is the most liberal country in the Middle East, the war was near to us, on the other side of the border. Many jets that bombed Syria left from there. I was making a war movie with the war at my side. It was tense."

But the four months in Jordan - including rehearsals, pre-production and six weeks of filming - did not generate any serious problems. Except for the drastic change for the Brazilian director, who travelled with his wife and two young children.

"On the first working day, she said, ‘’Let's go,’’ the filmmaker jokes. "It's a difficult adaptation, because my children had to go to a school in Arabic and English, but they did not even speak English, even taking a taxi was difficult." I suffered less because I worked with a British team. Similarities between countries, especially in food."

The film, coincidentally, is about points in common between cultures. Nicholas Hoult is an American soldier who enlisted in order to pay for college and only wants to get away from the Iraq War.

But alongside his battalion, he ends up cultivating a sense of morality and compassion in trying to fulfill the mission of repairing a water distribution station that will benefit the population of a village - part of it tries to sabotage the reconstruction.

The script was written by Chris Roessner. He was inspired by his own experience during the Iraq War to create this original story that has famous actors like Henry Cavill ("The Man of Steel") and Logan Marshall-Green ("Prometheus").

"I was interested in this atypical look at war, the perspective of a private soldier who had no idea why he was there. Every story has two sides and there was a certain distance from being an international team," explains the Brazilian, who left "The Wolf Behind the Door" to make some episodes of the first season of "Narcos", also on Netflix.

"Without 'Narcos', my transition to an American war movie would be much more difficult," says Coimbra. "The series gave me maturity and security to become confident on the set. Although 'Sand Castle' looks great, it's a small movie. It had no bigger structure than Narcos, which is huge, a monster in terms of production."

Although several Brazilian directors went through bad experiences in their Hollywood premieres, Coimbra says that his passage was "quite positive".

"You are hired to inject your aesthetic vision," reveals the director, who has already started filming for the second season of "Outcast", series from the same creator of "The Walking Dead", and returns to Brazil for the suspense "The Hanged Ones.” "It was an apprenticeship to get to the end and maintain your vision, learnt to sell my ideas constantly. I had a lot of freedom and no imposition from the producers or from Netflix."

Finally, this new picture was included in Empire magazine's preview of Sand Castle. Much more to come.

Zack Snyder: "Superman Does Play A Big Part In This Movie"

UPDATE: Empire has shared the HQ version of the new pic.

Fans have posted Empire magazine's Justice League preview, and it includes a new photo from the film. However once again, Supes is nowhere to be found. Thankfully, director Zack Snyder talks about Henry's role in Justice League. He says "Superman does play a big part in the movie," adding that "his presence and lack of presence are big story points."

So as we prepare ourselves for a Superman-less promo (at least for now), we take comfort in knowing that his return will have audiences cheering in the theater!

Okay, we have to admit that the possible answer to Henry's puzzle didn't automatically come to us.. it was a guess by one of his fans. But this is a damn good guess!

The playoff game is set for tomorrow evening at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO - and if Rafferty's guess is correct.. it's a good thing Supes likes the cold.

Superman's Sacrifice Helps Wonder Woman Embrace Mankind

USA Today/Warner Bros.

USA Today has released a preview of the films to watch this year, and they include a new image from Justice League.

The paper also talked to director Zack Snyder, who explains how Gal Gadot evolves as Wonder Woman in part because of Superman:

With Superman (Henry Cavill) having laid down his life for Earth, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) recruit a superteam to take on a new threat to civilization in Justice League. “It was all about the filling-out of this massive comic-book pantheon with the biggest and coolest heroes we could,” director Zack Snydersays of his group, which includes seafaring warrior Aquaman (Jason Momoa), speedy Flash (Ezra Miller) and high-tech Cyborg (Ray Fisher). Fans are getting a big character arc for Wonder Woman in 2017, beginning with her solo movie set during World War I. In it, she finds “humanity isn’t always the most kind and awesome thing,” says Snyder, also a producer on Wonder Woman. “It has its moments, but it can be brutal, and her coming to terms with that dichotomy is what we come to learn about her. And in Justice League, she’s fully evolved into someone who’s embraced mankind, partly through Superman’s sacrifice. She’s like, ‘All right, I’ve got to pick it up.’ ”

We're in tears here!

November 17, November 17, NOVEMBER 17.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Family On Social Media

A photo posted by Henry Cavill News (@henrycavillnews) on

We're pretty sure you noticed during The Man from U.N.C.L.E. promo, Armie LOVES Henry and always has his back. We mean ALWAYS.

So when a fan asked Armie a cheeky question on twitter, he replied with an even cheekier response.. the bromance lives!

For his part, Henry is digging Guy Ritchie's latest home projects since he started following the U.N.C.L.E. director on Instagram. This week he liked Ritchie's "no flame" cooking results, which were pretty impressive.

He later commented on Ritchie's beer-making plans..

Both Henry and Armie have hung out with the director at his country estate at least a couple of times.. for his wedding in August of 2015, and who can forget the man weekend before U.N.C.L.E. started filming..

A photo posted by Guy Ritchie (@guyritchie) on

So basically what we're trying to say is The Man from U.N.C.L.E. family is TIGHT.. and you should really be following them all on social media.

Happy weekend everyone!

Thanks for the heads up Jo (@cavillsworth).
